Melbourne Courses

The Melbourne centre offers a comprehensive range of English language programs.

General English

General English (GE) is taught across six levels at RMIT English Worldwide:

  • Elementary
  • Pre-Intermediate
  • Intermediate
  • Upper Intermediate
  • Advanced 1
  • Advanced 2

The General English program helps students to develop their ability to communicate in English through both traditional classroom based learning and computer assisted language learning. Each level builds students’ knowledge of grammar and vocabulary as well as the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The courses also include opportunities for students to develop their independent learning skills to help them to become more effective language learners.

English for Academic Purposes

English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program is taught across three levels at RMIT English Worldwide:

  • Upper Intermediate
  • Advanced 1
  • Advanced 2

The EAP courses are designed to prepare students for study at RMIT and other universities. Students wishing to enter RMIT University TAFE programs should successfully complete EAP Upper Intermediate. Students planning to enter RMIT University Higher Education programs should successfully complete EAP
Advanced 2.

The EAP program develops students’ knowledge of academic grammar and vocabulary. It also develops their study skills in academic listening, speaking, reading and writing through both classroom based learning and computer assisted language learning. Like the General English program it includes opportunities for students to develop their independent learning skills to help them to become more effective language learners. Our EAP program at the Melbourne centre now also includes specialised tasks relevant to students’ chosen course of study at RMIT University.

These tasks will meet the needs of students studying in a wide range of areas such as:

  • Art and Design
  • Business
  • Science and Technology
  • Tourism & Hospitality
  • Aviation
  • Teaching

Students undertaking English at RMIT English Worldwide will only need to successfully complete EAP Advanced 2 to satisfy the English language requirements at RMIT University.

IELTS Preparation

The IELTS Preparation course at RMIT English Worldwide is a short, intensive program that provides examination preparation with the focus on developing exam strategies. The course is aimed at students who have an English language level of approximately IELTS band 5 to 6, and who are planning to take the IELTS test for academic or other purposes. It is a four-week, part-time elective course that can supplement a full-time ELICOS program. Click here for IELTS Preparation course dates and how to apply.

IELTS Test

RMIT English Worldwide is the largest IELTS test centre in Victoria. An IELTS score is required as evidence of the language skills necessary for entry to other Australian university or college programs. Click here for IELTS Test dates and how to apply.

Academic Skills Workshops

RMIT English Worldwide offers a series of workshops specifically designed to help students in their first year of university study, including:

  • Preparing and planning for written assignments
  • Critical reading
  • Drafting and editing academic writing

Two-hour workshops are available from $45 a session. Contact us for more information.

Teacher Training

RMIT English Worldwide offers Teacher Training for teachers whose first language is not English and who need to become more familiar with current principles and techniques for effective English language teaching. RMIT English Worldwide is also an accredited CELTA training centre.

Aviation English
