Industry English

RMIT English Worldwide works with organisations across industries to develop and deliver language and literacy programs that concentrate on specific needs. Industry programs include English for Oil, Gas and Energy and English for Health.

English for Oil, Gas and Energy

The English for Oil, Gas and Energy language program is designed for engineers, surveyors, health and safety officers, seismologists and technicians employed in the industry and whose first language is not English.

This program focuses on developing technical language and vocabulary related to industry-specific equipment, geological terms, occupational health and safety as well as interpersonal communication skills in daily and work-related situations. The program specifically addresses pronunciation, speaking and listening skills to enable course participants to communicate confidently and effectively in their workplace.

Participants also develop independent learning skills to become more effective language learners. The program consists of both traditional classroom based learning and computer assisted language learning. Participants are required to demonstrate they have achieved an IELTS score of 4.5 or equivalent to enter this program.

English for Health

English for Health is an intensive English language program designed for doctors, nurses, paramedics and allied healthcare professionals whose first language is not English. The program is aimed at participants who are ready to enter an Upper Intermediate course in English (IELTS 5.0) who intend to work or who are already working in the health professions.

For intending health professionals the program will focus on the development of the academic language (jncluding medical terminology) and skills participants will need to undertake studies in their relevant discipline. For practising health professionals the program will focus on the professional communication skills participants require to work effectively in an English-speaking environment.

The program can be offered to mixed groups of doctors, nurses and other health professionals or to any one of these groups.
